Krakow is situated on the Vistula River, in the southern area of the Lesser Poland
Region (Maopolskal). The city has been for a long time the capital of the country, and
today still remains one of the largest Polish cities.
The city's historic centre was added to the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites in 1978.
Krakow preserves the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture of the Old City (Stare Miasto)
that witnesses the long and glorious history of the city. The Main Market Square is located
in the centre medieval town, is is the largest medieval square in Europe, 200 meters each side,
surrounded with beautiful buildings dated back from the XVII and XVIII centuries, the City Hall Tower,
Sukiennice Cloth Hall and the St. Mary Basilica.
