Shwezigon Phaya

Shwezigon Phaya is found about 6 Km Northeast of old Bagan, next to the city of Nyaung U (Nyaung Oo).
During the month of Nadaw (November-December) a very important festival is held that attracts pilgrims from the all country.

The Temple was built by King Anawrahta (1044-1077) in the late XI century.

The conversion of King Anawrahta to Theravada Buddhism in the middle of the XI century had a deep influence in the cultural and religious life of Bagan. He was the first one of the great builders of the city.
