Barbaste lies on the old Roman street Ténarèse, the Roman street from
the Pyrenées to the Garonne, and it is famous for the Moulin des tours (Mill of the towers),
a fortified mill with 4 square towers built in the XIII century on the shores of the river
Gélise. |
| On the river Gélise we also find a 10 arcs Romanesque Bridge of the XII century. |

The bastide of Saint-Justin is in the Armagnac Landes and was built in 1280 by the
viscountess of Marsan and by the the Knights Hospitaller (Knights of Malta).
Saint-Justin is just a small town but it expresses the whole charm of centuries of history. |

Biarritz is an elegant town of the French Basque Country that began to be meeting place of
European aristocracy by the middle of the XIX century.
Empress Eugenie decided to make Biarritz the usual place of her vacation after a two months
stay in 1854 and Napoleon III built for her a palace on the beach shaped as the letter E. This
episode brought to Biarritz a lot of the European royalty.
Among the illustrious guests of Biarritz there have been Victor Hugo, Alfonso XIII of Spain,
Queen Victoria and Edward VII.The rock-cliff of the Virgin is the emblem of the city.
The statue of the Virgin was installed in 1865, the wooden gangway disappeared in 1887
to be replaced with a steel one coming from the ateliers Eiffel. |
| At the beginning of the ‘60, Biarritz discovers surfing with a table imported from
California during the making of a movie. Some locals began to practise this sport,
launching a fashion that will bring the city to be one of the European poles of surfing
today, thanks to the good quality of the waves. |

The city of Bordeaux, over the Garonna River, it is known to be the world's wine industry capital.
In 2007 the historic part of the city has been added by UNESCO in the World Heritage List.

Saint-Émilion, situated 35 Km from Bordeaux, is a beautiful mediaeval fortified town
declared World Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO.
The city and the area are also famous for the vineyards and wines. |
