The Castle of the Haut-Koenigsbourg is situated on a rocky spur at over 700 meters altitude.
This strategic position made the castle an ideal observatory of the main roads of the region,
from the castle you can glimpse a breathtaking view of Alsace: Vosges, Rhine, Black Forest.
Run by the Hohenstaufens up to the XII century and by the Habsbourgs up to the XV century, the
castle was reconstructed in the middle of the XV century with a defensive system conceived for
the artillery.
Dismantled at the time of the Thirty Years War it was restored by Guillaume II of Hohenzollern
at the beginning of the XX century. |
